Colour...

Whether bold or subtle, light or dark, warm or cool, it’s all around us. It’s part of our every day. Colour affects us. It’s a part of our world: it affects our mood, it shapes our lives. It is not to be underestimated!

I’ve got a weird brain when it comes to colour. But it’s why I’m an artist.

When I look at the world around me, whether gazing out over a landscape or at an object close by, I immediately focus on the colour of it. This blast of colour fires my brain, makes me want to see more of it, dive into it, wrap myself up in it, then capture it somehow. It affects me emotionally. And creatively.

It’s a condition in fact. It’s called “colour synesthesia”. It’s when your senses are sort of cross-wired. So, sight, hearing, touch and taste are all stimulated by colour. I use colour to express how I am feeling, communicate my world.

Since 2016 I’ve been photographing the world around me. I then edit these photographs to create images which combine with my storytelling and other media to express what I see in my mind’s eye. I call this my PhotoArt.

My PhotoArt is, in essence, my take on life. And I like to think it is both universal and intensely personal. By sharing it, I hope to share a little bit of what I’ve learnt along the way: inspire and give hope.

It’s a colourful journey…

As a colour-synesthete, I have a special relationship with colour.

A firework display of constantly changing colours plays behind my closed eyes, triggered by my senses. And all of my senses are heightened too. I taste so much, feel so much, smell so much! This means I live in my own techni-coloured super-stimulated world - which I want to recreate so you can experience it too.

I’ve had a colourful life - in every sense of the word! My work explores this - from my charmed childhood and love of nature through my recent harrowing experiences of divorce, my daughter’s mental illness and cancer… then out the other side with an incredible love story…

It’s an emotional journey of pain, beauty, challenge and reward - that will resonate with everyone who thinks about “being human”. But it’s also a healing journey – that draws on the beauty of nature, life and love - and takes us to a calmer place.

All my Colour Art is created to exist as multi-sensory experiences - the visual expression enhanced with a voiced over story and other physical stimuli: sound or touch, smell, even taste.

To achieve this, I am developing a multi-sensory art gallery, The House of Many Colours, a must-see for visitors to Copenhagen.

"I am looking for a sponsor - and a suitable gallery space - to make this happen. So that I can take people with me on my colourful journey. If you want to be a part of this, please get in touch."
